From the Archives: 50th Anniversary Series Spills the Beans on PPCC

By Leslie James, Student Editor

To help celebrate Pikes Peak Community College’s 50th Anniversary year, The Paper is digging through the archives of the Pikes Peak News, the student newspaper that operated here from 1975 until 2006.

Did you know there used to be a bar on campus? Yep, at Centennial Campus over twenty years ago.

The only break in student-led information sharing and reporting was from 2006 to 2016 when the college lost its long-time Journalism Faculty, Janet Rohan, to retirement and PPCC didn’t replace her position due to a student downturn of interest in Journalism.

Over the 40 years of student reporting at PPCC there have been some very interesting scandals and conflicts, which we will re-publish in a series of installments over the next several months.

Thanks to History Professor, Kathy Sturdevant and English Professor, Jenna Benson for unearthing these gems from the bar.
